Job Listing: Double Reed Ensemble Director

Organization: Orlando Youth Chamber Ensembles (OYCE)


Position Type: Part-time/Contractor


Position Overview

The Double Reed Ensemble Director position at OYCE offers an exciting opportunity to lead our newly established double reed ensemble, providing high-quality instruction and fostering artistic growth for young oboists and bassoonists in a collaborative, performance-focused environment. This is a part-time, contract position based at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.


Pay: $100 per service


Frequency: Ensemble meets once per week


When: Thursdays from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM


Start Date: November 12th, 2026


Key Responsibilities

Conduct weekly rehearsals of the double reed ensemble, focusing on chamber music, ensemble blend, and specialized double reed techniques.


Select appropriate, engaging chamber music literature tailored to the skill levels of the participating oboe and bassoon students.


Provide guidance on double reed-specific nuances, including intonation, embouchure, and basic reed adjustment/maintenance.


Foster a positive, encouraging learning environment that inspires student growth and confidence.


Assist in recruiting double reed students for the program in collaboration with area band directors and private instructors.


Collaborate with the Orlando Youth Chamber Ensembles Administration and Executive team for logistical support and resources.


Qualifications

Minimum of 2–3 years of verified teaching or conducting experience with young musicians (middle and high school levels preferred).


Deep pedagogical knowledge of the oboe and/or bassoon.


Preferred degree in Music Education or Woodwind Performance (with a double reed emphasis).


Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships within the OYCE program and local music community.
