Director - Orlando Youth Chamber Orchestra
Daniel Cortes is the founder, executive director, and conductor of The Symphonic Underground (2018-Present), an organization dedicated to providing younger audiences with an accessible gateway to the classical world. By presenting soundtracks from video games, cartoons, and films, he hopes to inspire a new generation of music lover. His experience includes over 20 years of classical, jazz, and rock viola training (B.M. Stetson University, M.M. Western Michigan University). He served as principal violist during the entirety of his collegiate studies.
At the age of 18, Daniel began to play professionally with orchestras while juggling student life and working in the hospitality industry. Since the beginning of this journey, he has performed with over 20 professional orchestras around the nation. Recent noteworthy engagements include tours with Weird Al, The Who, The Beach Boys, Johnny Mathis, Video Games Live, Little River Band, Cirque Musica, Bernadette Peters, Amy Grant, Styx, Game of Thrones Live, Pokémon Symphonic Evolution, Electric Light Orchestra, Michael Bolton, Alan Parsons Project, Frankie Valli, Irish Tenors, Jackie Evancho, Rocktopia, and Roy Orbison’s 3D hologram.
He was privileged to study chamber music with masters from The Juilliard Quartet, Emerson Quartet, Shanghai Quartet, Amadeus Quartet, Enzo Quartet, Pacifica Quartet, St. Lawrence String Quartet, Cavani String Quartet, Harlem Quartet, Beaux Arts Trio, and the Takacs Quartet among others.
When he’s not playing with rock stars or serving chicken wings at Miller’s Ale House, you can find him in his studio plotting to heal the world with music.
